Al is the founder of 90Degrees of Design Inc., which trades as 90Degrees. He has served as the Managing Director of the firm since its establishment in 1992. During this time the company has provided services which Al is personally knowledgeable of and has deep experience in; enabling his personal involvement with every customer. “We believe that we need to be the very best at what we do, and that the services we offer need to be synergistic – providing a focused approach to a singular mission, so we can maximize our value to our customers.”
He started his career using his combined analytical, design and marketing talents as a human interface designer for highly complex simulation gaming models. From there he went on to become a marketing consultant, then Product Manager for the world-wide introduction of a graphic arts system for Genigraphics (at the time a Division of GE); VP of Marketing for InterCAD, a CAD/CAM company which was bought by ERC International, leading to his position as Director of Business Development for ERC Logistics – his entry into Government consulting. From there he led the business development efforts for RJO Enterprises and I-NET, two highly successful government IT contractors, before becoming the COO of Total Process Solutions (TPS), a newly formed subsidiary of Management Consulting Group’s Proudfoot PLC division. Al’s job was to build the practice, which went from start-up to 60 people in 18 months, servicing commercial and government clients in Europe, Asia and the United States with business restructuring services. After 5 years of managing assignments around the world, Al decided to settle back in Washington DC to form a marketing group that would focus on helping government contractors improve their business development operations, starting with how to effectively brand and market to the world’s largest and most complex customer. So, 90Degrees was born.
“I am lucky. My involvement with the City Simulation Games early in my career showed me the potential for creating exciting ‘experiences’ for people by combining analytical processes with visual creativity. This has been a principal force behind my career, and today it represents the secret sauce that enables 90Degrees to produce truly compelling products for our customers. At 90Degrees we do not encourage boasting about our successes, we prefer our customers enjoy that privilege. However, I love to boast about the creative talents of our people. It is what really makes the difference!”
